- From Howald 91406
-
-
- I recently read an article in 'The
-
- Users Group' (the San Fernando Valley
-
- Commodore Users Group newsletter)
-
- The article states that industry
-
- standards require manufacturers to
-
- certify both sides of every diskette
-
- they sell to the public. So you can
-
- tell your readers that if they have
-
- single sided disks, they can
-
- carefully cut a hole on the other
-
- side (or buy a cutting device like
-
- I did) and they can then use the other
-
- side without worry.

-
- For all you lovers of PRINT SHOP!
-
- If you also own DOODLE, you can now
-
- put PRINT SHOP lettering on the screen
-
- and decorate the display with DOODLE.
-
- Using a machine language monitor,
-
- follow these easy directions
-
- (assuming you wrote something with
-
- PRINT SHOP and saved it as TEXT):
-
- Enter your monitor and:
-
- .L 'TEXT',08 (load TEXT)
-
- .T 4000 5F3F 6000 (transfer PRINT SHOP
- screen to DOODLE)
-
- .F 5C00 5FE7 01 (add color: black)
-
- .S 'DDTEXT',08,5C00,7F3F (save, the
- file adding
- DD)
-
- Then from DOODLE, load TEXT and
-
- doodle to your hearts' content. You
-
- can substitute any name as long as
-
- you add the DD when saving it as a
-
- DOODLE.

-
- Want to pass along a warning about
-
- the new Star Micronics SG10C printer.
-
- It is extremely limited in its
-
- capabilities. Most of its nice
-
- features are accessible only through
-
- hardware switching, and cannot be
-
- controlled via programming. That
-
- includes NLQ and Italics. It has
-
- only two pitches, 10 and 5. I really
-
- don't understand what Star M had in
-
- mind when they put this one together.
-
- It is basically a 1525 with NLQ in a
-
- Star M. package.
-
- I sent mine back to the mail order
-
- outfit. In its place came an SG10
-
- with a CONNECTION. That's a
-
- combination I can work with.
-
- Another little tidbit to pass along.
-
- Several folks have mentioned a
-
- problem with their systems locking up
-
- with a Fast Load and a printer
-
- interface plugged in. As I had never
-
- experienced the problem, I was
-
- somewhat skeptical, until the other
-
- day when I tried out a used Star M.
-
- Universal Interface. I was looking
-
- for a good deal in a second
-
- interface. Boy did things start
-
- getting crazy. I couldn't get a
-
- reliable load from disk to save my
-
- life. One time it would be OK, the
-
- next time it would blow up. Bad
-
- interface you say? Nope. When I
-
- took out Fast Load everything
-
- returned to normal, slow, but normal.
-
- When I checked back with my friend, he
-
- confirmed the same problem. He went
-
- on to mention the same thing had
-
- occured with his CARDCO +G, but not
-
- as frequently.
-
- I have always used the TYMAC
-
- Connection. When I plugged my
-
- Connection back in with the Fast Load
-
- installed, everything returned to
-
- normal. I guess you get what you pay
-
- for.
-
- One last tidbit. I have been trying
-
- out a new mail order outfit and I like
-
- how it's gone. They are Computer
-
- Mail Order out of Williamsport PA.
-
- (1-800-233-8950 ask for ext 83). The
-
- fellow will listen and he will work
-
- with you on what you want. The prices
-
- are real good too.
